‘Yoga for a Sound Body and Mind’ was a Comm. (Community) virtual webinar organized on 09th May 2021 by JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru on the account of Mother’s Day as a part of the institute’s 3C’s series – Conv. (Conversations), Comm. (Community), and Conf. (Conference). The webinar was conducted by Sanjana Luniya from Nikaya Wellness.
3Cs is an initiative of JD Institute of Fashion Technology that aims to bring together practitioners, researchers, and students who have worked on or thought about design from a variety of perspectives, disciplines, and fields on one common platform. The session is attended by students and staff who get an opportunity to discuss and interact with a Q&A session at the end of its one-hour duration.
Sanjana Luniya’s ‘Yoga for a Sound Body and Mind’ session began with an introduction by the expert regarding the dire need to maintain robust physical health to sustain through any illness that the body encounters. An expert in hatha yoga, Vinyasa yoga, Yin yoga, Yoga Therapy and Restorative Yoga, Sanjana Luniya highlighted the significance of the practice of yoga in building a healthy lifestyle. The session dove into introducing the participants to basic breathing exercises, which help keep the mind and nervous system calm and under control.
The yoga session continued with rudimentary yoga asanas involving stretching of the body keeping inhaling and exhaling in rhythm at the same time. The expert highlighted that asanas like Setu bandha help in keeping the core muscles intact and make them stronger. She also added that these asanas involving inhaling and exhaling also benefit in maintaining sound mental health increasing focusing capabilities in an individual.
The high point of the session was the simplicity of the asanas. The yoga asanas introduced by Sanjana Luniya to the participants were uncomplicated enough for people barring age limitations to practice and make them a part of their healthy lifestyle. Physical activity is pertinent in the life of an individual despite the ailments that he faces. Sanjana Luniya’s yoga session recommended continued yoga practice to fight against diseases and illnesses that the world is currently crippling with. She pointed out that physical activity boosts the immune system in the body thereby growing to pose a strong opposition to antibodies.
‘Yoga for a Sound Body and Mind’ was one of JD Institute of Fashion Technology’s successful endeavors in keeping its students and staff ready to face any social, mental and physical challenges they might face.
