“Fashion is very important. It is life-enhancing and like everything that gives pleasure, it is worth doing well”

The role of a stylist until some years back was limited to styling models for magazine shoots. Whereas, nowadays, stylists create looks for television, films, ad campaigns, music videos, concerts, celebrities, personal wardrobe etc. The need for a stylist has become more imperative now than it was before. The reach of social media has made it a necessity to stay on top of the style game. This has led to it turning into a profession that is fast gaining popularity. Apart from this, the stylist also works with non-celebrities to enhance their dressing skills based on their features and lifestyle.
We all want to look good, some of us are blessed with an inherent sense of style; however, some of us do need guidance to put a look together. On the occasion of Women’s Day, 8th March 2019, Central celebrated #SuperFashionableWoman. The students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Kochi, were given an opportunity to not just style customers who visited Centre Square Mall, Kochi, but also give them a makeover. The Central clothing line was set up at a pop-up space in the mall for the students. Apart from clothing, accessories and shoe sections too were added to help complete the look.
The customers were happy with the outcome presented by the stylists and appreciated the transformation. It was a hands-on session that helped the students to understand the nuances of styling and gave them a better understanding of different kinds of customers. Since the customers varied, the style requirements for each were different. This made the experience challenging and helped to put into practice the knowledge gathered from their classroom lectures.
