Way to Gogh: A Tribute to Vincent Van Gogh
Way to Gogh was designed by Bauya Shree K, Lakshmi Priya K and Anu Varshini N, students of BSc. in Fashion and Apparel Design at JD School of Design at JD Institute of Fashion Technology for JD Design Awards 2023. The collection paid tribute to Vincent Van Gogh.
Van Gogh a posthumously influential western art figure, known for his dramatic impulsive behaviour is now the anchor of our collection. Over the course of his decade long career, he produced nearly 900 paintings and more than 1100 works on paper. Van Gogh’s unique way of looking at the world was ahead of its time with the consequence that, unable to earn a living from his work or reconcile his doubts as to the value of his achievements and overcome his mental crisis. After a manic episode while in Arles, Van Gogh painted Self Portrait with a Bandaged Ear while recuperating and reflecting on his illness. He believed that the act of painting would help restore balance to his life, demonstrating the important role that artistic creation held for him. Although he is often referred to as the “Mad Artist”, his impact continues to encourage aspiring artists to work on their craft and mesmerize the audience with their paintings.
The young fashion designers made an attempt to wring out the balance in his painting through our silhouettes. Our designs pull off his style of painting. They paid tribute to the famed for his great vitality of his works characterised by fine, expressive and emotive use of colours. Colours are the building block of emotion, was extensively used by him. The fashion designers demonstrated the dynamic application of impasto on our garments by directing attention to the exaggerated element of the silhouette.
The collection won Best Design Collection Award.
