A project by Vikas, “Wall Designed Furniture,” simply marks a new niche in interior design: functionality moving with artistry. The briefing provided for the design process, where there was a versatile furniture solution to be designed that would double up as decoration on walls. It is in this context, against the backdrop of multifunctional spaces characterising the modern living environment, that Vikas attempted to optimise utility without compromising aesthetics. Indeed, it was a creative journey of heaps of research and experimentation with different configurations and materials to come up with the right furniture and wall design.
The emerging urban lifestyle, where space optimization is crucial, served as inspiration for this project. Vikas analysed that in most contemporary homes and offices, the requirement for multi-use furniture is on the rise. He wanted to tackle this requirement by coming up with designs that would work as regular furniture but also play the role of being part of the design and decor when the furniture is not in use.

Taking a cue from the brief on sustainability, Vikas’s project focuses on wood and wood sheets to promote eco-friendly materiality that brings in strength and a raw aesthetic. These furniture pieces have been designed modularly so that three to four units combine to form complex patterns on walls. This integration of furniture with wall design saves space while creating unique visuals in interiors.
This modular design allows the customisation of spaces per the needs and inclinations of the users. It imparts flexibility and adaptability. The sustainable materials used in the project not only provide a warm, organic feel to any interior but are also environmentally friendly.
This project in innovative furniture design brings to the fore Vikas’s ability to mix practicality with creative thinking towards sustainable work. This demonstrates a sharp understanding of the challenges that modern design poses with a functional solution that also makes for an attractive aesthetic. Vikas’s “Wall-Designed Furniture” testifies to a vision: to bring forth sustainable, multifunctional spaces meeting the requirements for living in today’s modern world.
