Virata, was designed by Jesta Shermia M L, Pranavi P Surya and Vihashini I K, students of MSc. in Fashion Design and Management at JD School of Design, Bengaluru for JD Design Awards 2023. The name of the collection signifies empowering women with boldness, bravery and strength in action. Designed for high-positioned professional women as occasion wear, the collection was inspired by Rani Lakshmi Bai’s bravery, courage, and dedication to women’s liberation. The silhouettes exude confidence and professionalism through structured power dressing featuring strong shoulder lines, high-waisted trousers, structured dresses, clean lines, and precision tailoring. The colour palette reflects her strength and determination, incorporating bold shades like deep maroon and purple, along with earthy tones such as cream symbolizing her connection to the land, which adds elegance and balance as a neutral shade. High quality fabrics for the collection are carefully chosen to ensure comfort and elegance. In order to honour Rani Lakshmi Bai’s association with Paithani saree, the collection incorporates the intricate floral and small butas designs, infusing the modern power dressing with tradition and cultural richness. With the goal of empowering women, the collection provides attire that embodies their strength and professionalism. Every ensemble was thoughtfully designed to boost confidence and capture the spirit of the Queen, and her trailblazing legacy.
