VINTAGE IS THE NEW CHIC
Vintage furniture and décor accessories are one of the popular trends in decoration. The elements depict romantic, luxurious and modern interior design. The arrangement created with vintage furniture & fixtures looks interesting and gives a classy look.
Antiques are the backbone of this style. It’s important to create a focal point in a room. This is because it takes the centre stage as it helps to make the function of the space crystal clear. An heirloom dining table, accent chair or bed frameworks better if given as a focal point. Larger decorative items are also a good option. If mixed with modern and traditional design elements, then consistency should be looked upon.
Furniture in vintage style comes with its own history. Abrasion, cracks, chips etc. tell a story and make one comfortable with the space. It creates an atmosphere of peace, relaxation and nostalgia. Colour and patterns work well to spice up the look. Natural colours of wood such ebony, walnut brown, Rich red, blue, green stand out and add on to the flavour of the style. Royal colours such as silver and gold can go hand in hand with muted tones. Upholstery fabrics should complement the colours & furniture. The rough texture is important in this kind of furniture.
Wooden drawers, chests, dining tables, racks and chairs are fabulous furniture to compliment the look. A combination of natural materials like wrought iron, brass, ceramics, wood and stone gives a finished textured look. There are all sorts of accents which can enhance an area.
We should look out for wall accessories like wall clocks and big mirrors. The fabrics having abstract geometric patterns intensify the look. Shabby rugs are also popular when added to a living room or bedroom. One should look for bold and large floor lamps. A metal base is good for table lamps. One should try to keep subtle a rough white ceiling or add dullness through stucco for an organic look. Walls accented by black and white photographs give a retro feel. The vintage decor looks incomplete if flowers are not used. Music boxes, lamps and chandeliers, vases, candlesticks add a value to the decor.
