“The Lens” :JD Annual Design Awards 2015

The collection draws its inspiration from the work of master photographer Edward Burtynsky. His photographs engage the observer through what the artist refers to as a “duality” in the viewing process, captured effortlessly with digital prints, velvet patchwork and asymmetric piping. In Burtynsky’s aesthetic interpretation, his images render the subject most often in rich colour, detail, and textural qualities. The same is interpreted in the collection through shades of blue and grey, and dark brown with a textural play of fabrics such as cotton viscose, chambray, and velvet.

Simultaneously, the observer is made aware of the devastation and altered state of nature that is portrayed. The collection attempts to capture the tension generated by mediating the dual nature of the individual’s response to the image with an intention to provoke a thoughtful dialogue.

Titled The Lens’, the design collection is presented by Seema Suki, Sridevi, Sunandha K, Kumari Uma
