The collection The Crying Alps of JD Design Awards 2022 was designed by Falah Naaz from B SC FAD. Her inspiration is melting glaciers. Crying alps basically means snow capped mountains. Glaciers are attractive and have very nice structures in nature that are beautiful. Even though they are melting they look very beautiful but people don’t want to see their destroyed beauty. Hence, the designer through her collection wanted to make people realise that the glaciers can be so beautiful and it should not be neglected, rather to be paid attention as the future generation can experience them live and admire them.
The designer with the help of her collection also wanted to make the public realise that the glaciers are melting at an intense rate due to global warming and the habitats of that region are losing life out of starvation or simply not having a cool environment to live in around anymore. The designer’s main goal is to show the beauty of glaciers through her collections. The fabrics that the designer used are hundred percent recycled suede as it gives the snowy vibe and hundred percent recycled crepe as it shows the flow of the glaciers when they melt. The designer did intense primary and secondary research for her topic. The challenge that the designer faced is she was not able to perform primary research for her concept. The designer endeavoured to get as much as information from various sources and from her own experience. The main challenge for the designer was to design the garments that actually feel like glaciers or snow and that should be made look like they are standing. She felt very happy at the end as she got a very good result for her hard work, says the designer.
