JD Design Awards 2022 witnessed a great load of talents. The design community put their best foot forward to tackle the challenge and meet the needs of the theme Sync. The young minds of today explored the theme in the best way possible and showcased us nothing but awe-inspiring concepts and designs that exhibit how the designers are transforming into changemakers. Designer Paras Shah who is in the final year of his BSc in Fashion and Apparel Design came up with an astute concept to reduce the excessive waste generation by the Fashion Industry. Paras gave rise to the collection Tela Vaquera that explores the three Rs of sustainability in the Apparel market. For his concept, the designer reused, repurposed the discarded and old denim and cotton fabric.

As he explored he realized that clothing is something that is always going to be a requirement but over minor defects or inconvenience, we tend to discard it easily. The discarded garments either end up in the factory dump or go into landfills, adding more to the pollution and harming nature even more. For his concept, he used his classroom as well as practical knowledge to change the waste into something useful. The designer visited the slums and spread stitching and embroidery across the residents over there. He went ahead with neutral and blue color themes as they are evergreen and always look classy.

Tela Vaquera is a streetwear collection that is totally sustainable as the fabric is reused and rejuvenated. The entire collection appears chic and high-end. Designer’s unique approach of providing learning and work opportunity to underprivileged society is moving and received grand accolades from the audience and JD Design Awards.

Sustainability is not only about making conscious choices and living eco-friendly life but includes the growth of every being. Its goals thrive on development and harmonious living without harming nature and its resources. In current time, waste generation from the Fashion Industry has become a pressing issue and the solution to this is through sustainable living and adopting slow fashion. The designer Paras Shah showcased the same and received Best Sustainability Design Collection Award.
