For a decade or so, Indian fashion industry has metamorphosed from the embryonic stage to a blossoming take off. It is estimated that the net worth of the industry will see a growth from Rs .200 core to 1000 core in next 5-10 years.
Such growth and demand open a large array of opportunities to the Fashion designers, new and established ones alike. Fashion being a subject of interest isn’t new to the country, however; Fashion in context of work and study is brought into limelight only a decade ago. Presently thousands of young designers graduate in the field of fashion each year across the country. While many ambitious youngsters would want to establish themselves as entrepreneurs, the biggest challenges posed to them are Funding, networking and design in itself.
Catering to the needs of such newbies are the platforms such as 6degree, which is primarily a fashion network building and mentoring platform. The name 6 degree is indicative of the theory of 6 degrees of separation of acquaintances among people. It is India’s first fashion talent and tech company, their aim is to find talent, give them the required support and networking helping them to showcase their creative collections to a Wider Audience.
Mr Nikhil Hegde the founder of the platform addressed Fashion Designing course students of J D Institute of Fashion Technology, brigade road, Bangalore introducing what the company is all about as well as sharing insights of how a collection is to be built and showcased.
6degree is in partnership with the Lakme Fashion Week since more than three years and has been mentoring gen-next designers to build and showcase their collection for the same and retail at multi-designer stores across the country in order to kick-start their careers. Both the aspects being very good opportunities for the aspiring design entrepreneurs, to begin with in terms of recognition and funding through sales in multi-designer stores. Since the multi-designer stores are constantly looking for fresh ideas for the newbies to be on their racks due to costing and uniqueness or newness of the collections.
