What is streetwear?

Streetwear is casual, relaxed, and sophisticated garments, bags, accessories, and footgear encouraged by urban culture, skateboarding, hip-hop, and graffiti drawing. An informal, relaxed style of clothes such as graphic t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, sneakers, bold graphics, logos, athletic footwear, and branding a mix of high-end and affordable fashion focussing on comfort and practically that are influenced by music, art, and youth culture. Internet, social media, celebrity influences, streetwear festivals and events, fashion weeks, trade shows, collaborations, and limited-edition releases where fast fashion to luxury brands have adopted the styles in order to fulfil the cultural needs.

Inception of Streetwear:

In the 1970s and 1980s, the hip-hop culture in New York took the wave of streetwear, where skateboarding and punkrock culture movements emerged. In the early 2000s, surf and skate brands, music, graffiti art, and street culture gained popularity; luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton x Supreme started collaborating and promoted on social media that amplified streetwear in the 2010s, while celebrity endorsements influenced the visibility of the streetfashion culture.
