The Major Attraction at Ayodhya Ram mandir

The main attraction that has pulled in the crowd from every corner of the world is the spectacular and adorable Ram Lalla idol at Ayodhya Ram Mandir. Along with the idol of Rama, another name has become prominent and will always be remembered by Hindus across the globe- Arun Yogiraj! Arun comes from a lineage of sculpting hands which go back to 5 generations of Mysuru. The 28-foot statue of Subhash Chandra Bose in monolithic black granite, which was installed by Modi under the canopy behind the India Gate in September 2022, was crafted by Yogiraj. It is this work by Yogiraj that gave Ram Mandir Trust the confidence to put the responsibility of making Ram an idol on his shoulders.

Without a doubt, Arun Yogiraj accepted and made this mesmerizing Ram idol for the main sanctum of Ram Mandir. 

Idol and Sculptor facts:

  1. The Ram idol is religiously carved out of a 300 billion-year-old rock known as the Krishna Shila.
  2. Krishna Shila is the name given to all Nellikaru Rocks also, most of the Southern statues are carved out of them
  3. The statue of Rama lalla is accompanied by one of Nishadaraja Kevata, a boatman who helped Rama, Sita, and Laxman cross the Ganga when in exile. 
  4. Krishna Shila (The black Stone) was chosen as the color of the rock will define a 5-year-old Rama’s expression quite efficiently. 
  5. Yogiraj’s famed sculptures include a 12-feet statue of Adi Shankaracharya in Kedarnath, 21-feet Hanuman statue at Chunchanakatte in Mysuru district, 15-feet Dr BR Ambedkar, white amritashila statue of Swami Ramakrishna Paramahamsa in Mysuru, 14.5-feet white amritashila statue of the then king of Mysore Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar.

The sculpted Ram idol in Ayodhya Ram Mandir is considered the biggest spectacle but it just does not stop there the sculpted pillar of Ram Mandir is a brilliant way of showing the rich Indian heritage of stone carving. 

Hundreds of well-renowned sculptures were invited to carve out the pillars and walls of Ayodhya Ram Mandir. There is Ramanayan sculpted on the walls and pillars of the temple, apart from that the idols of Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesha, and many more gods are portrayed all over. The old Shiva temple has also been restored and is among the temples that one can visit surrounding the main sanctum.
