Designer Simran Utmani’s collection, “Selcouth” means rare, unfamiliar, yet marvelous. The Agate Geodes, formed the inspiration for the collection. They are colourful crystal formations that are found in the hollows of the rocks. The collection was a presentation of the properties of the geodes.

Agate Geodes are rocky exteriors with crystal growth and formation in the interiors that take close to 200 – 250 million years to form. It is primarily composed of quartz or Chalcedonic deposits. They develop in shallow burrows from limestone or anhydrite & mineral rich water. Geodes have a hollow centre of developing crystals. The clarity of the geodes, depends mainly on the crystal within. They are known to have healing properties, calming effect, relieves stress and anxiety. They are mostly concentrated in deserts, volcanic ash beds or regions containing limestone.

Inorder to represent the properties of the geodes, the designer used layering to provide  visual representation of the layers of the agate geodes. Organza and pure silk was used to create the garments. The colours of the collection were blue and purple that represented the colours of the geodes. Some garments were digitally printed with the patterns of the geodes. Accessories like crystal belts were used to elevate the overall look of the collection.
