A tribute honoring the legacy of Akira Yoshizawa and his dedication to origami, Preethi Charles has designed Sakura Foldscape – a pop-up confectionary café for Yoku Moku, a Japanese luxury dessert maker.  The project was presented at the JD Design Awards. Preethi Charles has pursued her MSc in Interior Design from JD School of Design. Her primary goal was to create spaces that are small, lightweight, portable but also functional and aesthetically pleasing. Understanding origami concepts and modularity she identified the key elements of design that can create wonders in temporary structures.

The structure is to be placed inside a mall, creating an aesthetically pleasing façade on all sides was a challenge for the designer. With the help of mentors and various architects and designers the designer was able to produce her design properly. Sakura Foldscape also received the Best Execution of the Year Award by JD Design Awards.
