“Fashion is part of the daily air and it changes all the time, with all the events. You can even see the approaching of a revolution in clothes. You can see and feel everything in clothes.”

Designers Heena Jain and Priyanka Abhishek’s collection “Russell” has been inspired by fossilized ammonite shells. The name of the collection is an amalgamation of “rust+shell”. Over a period of time the fossils went through external transformation due to environmental changes. Hence, the designers have showcased this stage of evolution of the fossils in their garments, through rust dyeing technique.
Rust formation on metals and fossilization takes place due to the presence of oxygen in water. Both of them change their colour and structure due to external changes. Hence, the designers have presented the colour and texture of the ammonite shells through rust dyeing the fabrics of the collection.
The collection is a line of party or occasion wear with modern silhouettes. The garments of the collection have been created from organic cotton and pre-plated fabric. The colour palette of the collection is off-white and cream alongwith rust derived from the rusted metals used for dyeing the fabrics.
The designers have ensured sustainability in their collection by using organic fabrics and rusted metals to dye their fabrics instead of using chemical dyes.
