The heritage of India starts and seeps through a myriad of cultural elements. India’s lineage of cultural strength is exemplified no where more justly than in its rich diversity of textiles. Roots of India is an installation focusing on some of the most integral of our country’s assets through the showcase of twenty-five traditional textiles & their surface crafts depicting our very ‘roots’. The form of tree idealizes our country’s cultural evolution branching out in diverse directions emphasized and brought to a balance by the aesthetic power of India’s skilled hands. Though modernization and industrialization ever seeks to supplant the traditional way of creation, there is no doubt that these cultural artifacts remain the basis to the structure & framework of our country’s beauty and glory. This installation hopes to provide a glimpse of an essential note to India’s tradition.
