Roop: A tribute to Lotus an element of Goddess Lakshmi
Priyanka Kamat, a student of JD School of Design, Goa pursuing her BSc. in Fashion Design showcased her collection, ‘Roop,’ at JD Design Awards 2023. The meaning of the word Roop is, ‘Beautiful,’ and pays tribute to the lotus. The lotus flower has a variety of different meanings in different cultures. In general, however, the lotus is seen as a symbol of purity, spiritual enlightenment, and rebirth. It is considered sacred in Eastern cultures.
Priyanka’s Collection pays homage to Goddess Lakshmi’s element, the lotus, and is inspired by the Hindu goddess Lakshmi. It not only represents beauty, transparency, growth, power, and eternity, it is also the national flower of India. Indian women who choose to demonstrate their strength via femininity were her intended audience. She designed clothes that are best suited for formal parties, weddings and festivals.
The fabrics used by her for the garments were organza silk and satin. Due to the delicate nature of the textiles, the clothes were made with the utmost care. The
collection’s vibrantly coloured fabrics represent the epitome of femininity and embracing its power.
The target audience for ‘Roop,’ would be Indian women who choose to express power through femininity.
“Apart from fashion designing, I am also interested in the world of art and ‘Vincent Van Gogh’ is my favourite painter. I was inspired by his iconic painting, ‘The Starry Night,’ and tried to mix my style and technique with his to make my collection.”
