Raaga Kalyani is Designed by Lakshmi Gouthaman, Surya Soman, students of Diploma in Fashion Design at JD Institute Of Fashion Technology Cochin, for JD Design Awards 2023. Kalyani means “she who brings good fortune.” Kalyani, often known as “the Queen of Ragas,” is a lovely and sweet Carnatic raga. The women’s party wear collections were inspired by “Raaga Kalyani” to celebrate the great M.S Subbalakshmi, who is widely referred to as “The Queen of Carnatic Music”, the possessor of a lovely voice and ageless elegance. Drawing on her sense of style, they designed a collection that combines traditional Indian saree drapes with Western fashion. This party wear collection focuses on the creative drapes of sarees, which were inspired by M.S. Subbalakshmi’s grace. They aimed to capture the essence of her ethereal presence, urging women to radiate confidence and enjoy the beauty of draped western costumes. The collection is a wonderful blend of culture and current aesthetics.
