Designer Tazeen Jan Mohammed’s collection “Querencia”, in Spanish means, “A place from which one’s strength is drawn, where one feels at home; a place where you are your most authentic self”. The collection has been inspired by mental health, specifically anxiety. It encourages people to acknowledge, express, and embrace themselves. The designer has curated an alternate form of therapy through fashion and art.

Since the emphasis is on mental health, one of the ways to cope with it is through therapy and art being one of the forms of therapy. The designer has used fluid art on her garments to emphasize the importance of art as a coping mechanism. Fluid art is a form of abstract art that uses acrylic paints with a runny consistency. Different acrylic paints are poured on canvas or paper which then combine together and form interesting and visually organic motifs.

The designer has used off-white pure georgette silk and digitally printed georgette for her garments. The placement of the prints against the off-white base of the garments is symbolic of the canvas and the paints. The garments are flowy and do not restrict movement. The purpose of her collection is to let individuals be their own authentic self!
