JD Institute of Fashion Technology has many notable alumni over the years and those designer minds keep coming back to their alma mater. Ruder D who completed his BSc in Interior Design in 2022 recently returned to the campus and with glittery eyes and a wide grin spoke about his college life.
“When I first came to college, I was completely lost but slowly the vibe of the institute rubbed off on me”, says Ruder remembering the good old college days. Hailing from the Interior Design department, the young designer was an active face of the campus who used to thoroughly enjoy the college life while being all respectful and helpful to the juniors, seniors and the college staff members.
A poignant face of Jediiians Design Council, Ruder has always proved himself inside the college premises as well as outside, being the flagbearer of the values that JD Institute of Fashion Technology inculcates in each of its learners. Currently, the creative mind works as a Designer with one of the reputed firms that ventures into Interior Design solutions, Rahi Design Studio.
If you are someone who is meeting Ruder for the first time, you’ll be taken aback by his natural charm and fluency in design. Apart from being a hardcore designer, he also has been an active promoter of extracurricular activities. From emceeing events to being the face of JD TV or mesmerizing everyone with his dance moves, Ruder has always been a Jediiian to whom you can look up to.
Post completing his Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, Ruder actively worked on various freelance projects that gave an edge to his portfolio. While working on these projects, he stumbled upon an offer from Rahi Design Studio about which he says, “It has been one of a kind experience at Rahi Design Studio. I am able to implement my classroom learnings in practice and able to understand the market properly. I believe every design student should get professional exposure that helps them understand the future well.”
Exploring the industry as a designer, Ruder has many suggestions for freshers. He speaks about the best way designers can keep themselves ready for the market. As Design enthusiasts they need to work on certain aspects from the start of their learning process and work on the pathway to hone their skills.
“As a fresher out in the industry there are five points that should be in hand to succeed. Have a strong portfolio, keep your facts checked, brush up your software skills, do your homework about the company where you are applying and have your signature design that gives you the edge over your peers”, says Ruder in an astute way when prompted to give a suggestion to his juniors.
Ruder’s journey inside the institute has been inspiring. From being involved in cultural activities, the designer also participated in JD Design Awards 2022 which had a theme Sync. As a diligent designer, Ruder worked on a unique project and went ahead with establishing his signature style of biophilic design. He curated a library design which was sustainable and helped in connecting the readers with the natural world. Going forward in his career, Ruder wants to establish his own design studio and practice biophilic design style in a full-fledged manner.
Upon his return to the college campus, he shared many laughs with his juniors and met the mentors and called his college days a “golden memory that has been etched in his heart”.
