November at JD Institute of Fashion Technology was a month of workshops and seminars, creativity-driven events that helped bring out new talent, which has been quite inspiring indeed. Every event was thoughtfully crafted to connect them with the right industry specialists, broaden their knowledge, and ignite innovative thinking across a multitude of disciplines. Let’s take a quick look at some of these highlights:
- Karnataka Rajyotsava Celebration
The Karnataka Rajyotsava celebration at JD Institute of Fashion Technology was a vibrant showcase of the state’s rich heritage and cultural diversity. The event came alive with enthralling music, captivating dance performances, and colourful traditional attire that honoured Karnataka’s legacy. Students and faculty joined together to celebrate the spirit of unity, art, and tradition, creating an unforgettable experience filled with joy and pride for the state’s glorious history and culture.
- Game and Experience Design Workshop by Mr. Amaresh Deshpande
It was a treasure trove for those young minds designing games – hand-led by the master, Mr. Amaresh Deshpande, an experienced professional who’s both a designer and educator. They dug deep into the intricacies of the game design where storytelling, mechanics, and immersion were folded in to make digital worlds that truly involve. Being an industry workshop, this session opened up avenues toward understanding how creative ideas can be translated into interactive realities skills increasingly in demand in today’s gaming and technological landscapes.
- UAL Portfolio Development Workshop
This dynamic workshop was a launching pad for students looking to round up their portfolios to get admission to top schools in the world, such as the University of the Arts London (UAL). This Key Take Away from the workshop included:
- Branching out on the opinions of art and design disciplines.
- Building confidence creatively through experimentation and quite meticulous documentation
- Find insights on study proposals and video tasks.
- Perfection in Statement of purpose with the experts’ guidance.
By the end of the seminar, students walked out with more than just portfolios but a stronger understanding of what sets them apart in their creative voice and their ability to present that with confidence.
- Seminar Blum Manufacturing Company for Interior Designing Students
Blum- the world leader in furniture fittings, had a very knowledge-filled seminar for our interior design students. The talk of the session was on innovative concepts, “Blum Inspirations,” focusing on practical furniture solutions. Students learned about the innovative motion technologies and services of Blum. Concept of Blum Inspirations: Immersion in research-based furniture solutions that offer an optimization of workflow, space utilization, and motion technologies offering practical value for both the designer as well as the end-user.
The participants left with the knowledge and a certificate – a badge of honour now that they have new learnings about standards of global interior design standards.
- Human-Centered Design Through Design Thinking Approach
Industry Expert: Ms. Varsha Solanki
With more than ten years of experience, Varsha Rani Solanki introduced sustainability in fashion and craftsmanship revival to the JD Institute. Her exciting journey from the revival of Kadoli crafts to presenting collections at Helsinki Fashion Week 2024 made the students enthusiastic about designing, not just as mere craftsmen but as innovators pursuing cultural preservation.
Her session articulated circular design and interdisciplinary research, urging students to envision creativity as a way to save heritage that would take them down the road towards sustainability.
Each of these events exemplifies the JD Institute’s vision of bridging this gap of academic-professional excellence. From imagining the world of game design, honing practical skills in photography, or simply exploring innovations in sustainability, the November schedule did indeed empower students to dream big and think differently.
