‘Marketing for Millenials’ was a talk session that was organised and hosted by the 3C’s Outreach program, an initiative by JD Institute Bengaluru. A committee is formed for the students, for their exposure and wider knowledge on what is trending and happening in the creative industries. The 3C’s latest webinar session was focused on how the traditional marketing strategies are being re-written by millennials.
Before we look into the webinar session and the speakers, let’s look into:
What Is Marketing?
In definition, marketing is ‘the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising.’ But for a lay man’s understanding, it is an activity which involves a set of institutional processes consisting of creation, communication, distribution, and exchanges that are of value to the customers, clients, etc,.
Marketing has evolved with the requirements and upgrades in technologies and social networks. The biggest evolution is yet to come, as millennials across the globe are working towards self-employment and financial stability. With their entry into the business world, they seem to be bringing in new concepts and ideologies
This webinar session has 4 of the happening millennial speakers, who not only shared their experience in being a start-up but also, running the business amidst the ongoing pandemic. The speaker’s who were apart of this webinar session are:
- Mr. Prasanna, Display Stylist Designer at Titan;
- Mr. Vipul Sirohi, Brand & Category Head at Wildcraft;
- Mr. Anand Raj, Founder of Eat Raja; and
- Mr. Ankur Khamesra, Travel Blogger at Banjara Couple
These millennial marketers have seen the change and benefits of moving towards the newer methods of marketing, and have taken time to share these strategies and ideologies with our students.
The webinar began it’s course with Ms.Varsha Solanki, assistant professor of the interiors department, JD Institute by welcoming and introducing our speakers. The first speaker was Mr. Anand Raj.
Mr. Anand Raj, is an engineer who currently runs his own juice bar called, ‘Eat Raja’. Although he is an engineer, he shared that his passion for designing kept him going. He started ‘Eat Raja’ with the interpretation to reach many variants, which it has achieved. They focus on zero-waste, which is keeping minimal wastage or none at all. Although their brand focuses on environmental benefits, it is important to have the best marketing strategies to push the brand to a point where the brand details are marketing by word of mouth.
He, however, hasn’t spent a penny on marketing, advertising or anything or that sort. Similar to their branding, he started his juice bar, at zero. His business is a family run business that has been in the market for over 2 generations. The millennial generation, that is himself, revamped the entire store, including the design and layouting of the store. His marketing started from a simple post of his juice and tags, now almost 90% of the millennials in Bengaluru are a fan of ‘Eat Raja’. The appreciable initiative by Mr. Anand Raj, is that his employment is not restricted to males, but is open to all genders including transgenders.
Moving onto Mr. Vipul, is a NIFT graduate who started off as an entrepreneur and then moved into Wildcraft as Brand and Category Head. He also leads various branding and marketing functions at wildcraft, where they aim to to keep in mind the evolving millennial lifestyle. Although the topic is strictly fixated on millennials, he states that many confuse millennials with gen-Z, who are extremely different from each other. Wildcraft does keep in mind this difference, and places their products in two different age groups that helps in achieving their marketing goals as per their customer targets. These strategies are shared during the webinar.
The next speaker was Mr. Ankur Khamesra, an entrepreneur for a decade with a digital marketing background. His educational background is computer engineering, that is, development of websites and designing. A few years ago, he began his travel journey with his wife which was also the beginning of his vlogging journey, ‘Banjara Couple’. This did not change his entrepreneurial ambitions. He shared the importance of marketing through social media platforms, in today’s day and age. He shares further about his journey in the webinar.
The last, but not the least, Mr. Prasanna who is a display stylist in Titan. He also handles their online and offline branding media. With the upcoming titan ventures in their variations in fashion and lifestyle. He also runs a freelance committee , where he supports the freelancers in understanding and achieving their base in various industries. Moving into the webinar, he shares his experiences in marketing for millennials.
Marketing for millennials is an evolving topic. The four speakers of this web inarticulate session have given aspiring design entrepreneurs an overview of how marketing and branding of business can be done without investing exuberant amounts. Through this, JD Institute has provided the students an opportunity to understand and work towards their own ventures.
