MAKE-UP WORKSHOP FOR PORTFOLIO PHOTOSHOOT

MAKE-UP WORKSHOP FOR PORTFOLIO PHOTOSHOOT

“‎Lipstick is really magical. It holds more than a waxy bit of color – it holds the promise of a brilliant smile, a brilliant day, both literally and figuratively.”
― Roberta Gately

A make-up artist is like a magician, who can transform anyone to look their finest by highlighting their best features. However, there are different types of make-up, meant for different occasions.
JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Kochi, organised a workshop with Mr. Vikas, who is not just a faculty at JD but also a renowned make-up artist. He has not just woven his magic wand on brides, but also on celebrities. The workshop was conducted for the photography students as part of a portfolio photo shoot in the institute.

The lights during a photo shoot are harsh. Hence, care must be taken to ensure that the make-up is not too loud, that it makes the client unflattering in the pictures. Mr. Vikas demonstrated two
make-up styles in this session – casual and bridal make-up. Every individual has different skin tones. The colours and foundation needs to suit the client, without making their face look like it is slathered by pancake. The students were taken through a step-by-step process of applying make-up. They were taught the finer nuances of make-up and its application, highlighting the best features of the client.

The students were then asked to create casual and bridal make-up alongwith hairdos. Inorder to complete the bridal look, the students helped the model dress in bridal attire with accessories to match. The students were guided by their department faculty under the watchful gaze of Mr. Vikas.

The hands-on workshop enabled to students to understand the effect of different colours on a model during a photo shoot.
