M4marry Wedding Fashion Week 2018

Wedding Fashion Week 2018, one of Kerala’s biggest fashion shows was conducted at Le Meridien, Maradu, Kochi, from 14th – 16th September 2018. It was organized by m4marry.com, a leading matrimonial portal of Kerala, along with Kalyan Jewellers and Ambika Pillai, renowned make-up artist. India’s couture pioneers – Tarun Tahiliani, Anju Modi and Gaurav Gupta showcased their collection during this three-day extravaganza. The event was a fundraiser for the disastrous floods experienced by Kerala.

The students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Kochi were given an opportunity to be a part of the fashion week. They had the privilege to be associated with the event and assist three of the prominent powerhouses of Indian fashion. The students assisted the backstage co-ordination team. This helped them understand how important it is to be an effective coordinator. They were able to get hands-on experience and learn finer intricacies of what goes on behind the scenes.

The first day of the show was opened by Anju Modi. The ramp was adorned with real plants and trees that signified raw material from the remotest corners of our country. The collection had an array of colours like off-white lehengas, peach, gold, traditional maroon, yellow, blue and violet. The fabrics used for the collection were also varied. Brocade was used on Varanasi fabric, net cloth, and velvet.

The second day belonged to Tarun Tahiliani. The runway looked like a celebration with dramatic lights and fresh flowers. The colours of the collection were peach and gold, pink, red and cream. Tahiliani’s showstopper for the evening was the elegant, Kiara Advani, who stunned in a mauve lehenga. The work on the collection was a combination of zari, bandhini, zardozi, gota patti, and chikan-kaari.

The curtain to the three-day event was closed by Gaurav Gupta. The runway was lit by dotted starry lights against a black backdrop. Gupta’s collection had gowns rather than the conventional lehengas. The colours used for the collection were metallic pastel, maroon, deep shade of sea blue and cherry red. The fabrics used were chiffon and satin. On the other hand, the male models were dressed in black tuxedos, with little embroidery detailing, on their blazers.

The outstanding shows presented an eclectic collection that embodied the modern bride and groom. The students were able to garner will hold them in good stead and incorporate it when they have to showcase their collection.
