LIVING CORAL – PANTONE COLOUR FOR 2019

Every year Pantone introduces “Colour of the Year” which goes onto determining the colors that we will see in the coming seasons, be it in Fashion Design, Interior Design or Product Design. It has been naming colors of the year past 20 years, choosing a vibrant ultraviolet in 2018 and fresh greenery in 2017. Every year Fashion Designers, Make-up Artists, Home décor designers generally wait eagerly for this time for Pantone to introduce its color for the season.

The Colour for 2019 is Living Coral, Pantone 16-1546, which has an orange-pink hue. A far cry from the Vivid Purple; Living Coral is muted, bright and fresh.  Pantone calls its color of the year as an animating and life-affirming coral hue that energizes and brings a softer edge.

The selection of the Colour of the Year is based on fashion, films, art, design or the prevailing socio-economic conditions. Living Coral was not selected just for trend purposes but also draws attention to the endangered coral reefs that are a very important part of our eco-system.

The Living Coral was evident during the runway shows for 2019, has also been donned by celebrities and there are cosmetic ranges with the colour. The colour is muted and can be adorned in clothes, cosmetics, home furnishings or accessories.

In the words of Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, “Color enhances and influences the way we experience life. As a shade that affirms life through a dual role of energizing and nourishing, Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral reinforces how colors can embody our collective experience and reflect what is taking place in our global culture at a moment in time.”

How well you can use this color into design?

This color will make a statement. It blends well with all types of design: Fashion, Interior, Home décor, product, jewellery, and Makeup. The color compliments all types of skin tones across all ages, gender thus works well in fashion and accessories. When it comes to makeup, coral is one of the few colors which can be worn, but one can try it to give bold lips, eye shadows and as a ting of a blush. In terms of Interior, Living Coral can work best with furniture placed in a garden. One can also visualize an accent wall in coral. The delightful applications of this color will be beyond Fashion.
