JD Institute of Fashion Technology commenced Jewellery Design Semester End Display for the Diploma in Fine Jewellery Designing 2023 batch on July 18, 2024
The display was the combination of the student’s work and determination following the entire semester. This jewellery design semester end display is more than just a portrayal of craftsmanship; it is an evaluation platform that has a comprehensive assessment of knowledge, presentation skills, and communication. 2D design using Adobe Illustrator:

3D Design using Rhinoceros:
Rhinoceros is best suited for every budding jewellery designer and professional in the fields of jewellery design or jewellery making. The tool offers extensive 3D modelling and compatibility with jewellery plugins. It’s particularly valuable for those who appreciate its precision and plan to apply their skills across various industries available in the market. At JD Institute, students use this to give their ideas a wonderful and life-like look to the spectators and visitors. Our students had a a very appreciative outcome at the semester end display because of the presentation of their designs using this particular tool.
Metallurgy:
Teaching students about metallurgy in jewellery design is more than just a basic science. Metallurgy teaches them about the nature and levels of modulation one can do with a particular kind of metal, which is quite important in jewellery design.
Diamond Grading and Gemology:
Students of the Diploma in Jewelery Design learn in depth about diamonds and many gems. The quality and grading of diamonds is taught with a lot of detailing. Diamonds are graded according to the 4Cs — cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. These grades determine the quality and value of a diamond. Once a diamond’s 4Cs have been assessed, they register this information in a diamond grading report. Also in gemology, the basic knowledge of structural, crystallographic, chemical, and physical characteristics and properties of gems. It also involves the way in which gemstones are fashioned. Special Gemology deals with categories and varieties of gemstones, synthetic stones, and imitations. A mix of science and creativity was presented at the semester end display.
Visual Merchandising
Visual jewellery merchandising is practised at JD Institute of Fashion Technology; it is a very crucial part of jewellery merchandising. It deals with the visual display of how the product and, in this case, the jewellery, is presented. This would further consist of display development that is visually appealing, expressing the individuality, elegance, and craftsmanship in the pieces of jewellery. This skill is commenced by the Visual merchandiser, which is very crucial in the Jewellery retail industry. They define the key 4Ps of marketing to maximize profitability and return on investment through effective product and visual merchandising. The job requires a blend of skills and art, apart from designing and manufacturing activities.
Product cost and budgeting:
One of the most popular classes in our module is called pricing and selling your Jewellery. In this module strategies for a pricing formula is taught which is easy to do, accounts for costs of parts, labour, and fits with the realities the jewellery designer faces, most notably, that they wear different hats — manufacturer, wholesale and retail — and each “hat” requires a different way or related costs to prices. The aim of this course is to teach different pricing techniques and methods used to teach Jewellery Products. These methods are intended to be used as guidelines and should be adjusted or modified. By the end of the course the student should be familiar pricing different types of Jewellery products, either bespoke Jewellery, mass produced Jewellery, etc.
Final design Project
A complete process for JDDA project is taught to the students where they get to showcase their life size collection, which helps them bridge the gap between the study and the market. JDDA becomes a prominent position for our students to build up a network among the audience.
