JEDIIIANs volunteered at recently concluded celebrations for VIMOR!

Vimor, a Heritage Handloom Foundation, is the brainchild of (Late) Mr. Chimy Nanjappa and her daughter Ms. Pavithra Muddaya.  It was set up to promote the rich textile culture of the country and motivate the traditional handloom weavers to continue with their art. Vimor recently turned 45 and to mark this special occasion, a celebration was organized from 8th – 12th November 2019 at Bangalore International Centre, Domlur. The students of July batches of Postgraduate Diploma in Fashion Design and Business Management along with Diploma in Fashion Design from JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore received an opportunity to volunteer throughout the duration of the event.

The event provided visitors a glimpse into the legacy of the label and its journey along with awareness and promotion of the rich textile culture of our country through talks, screening, musical performances, curated walks and fashion shows. In attendance were the traditional weavers from the Vimor family along with connoisseurs of handloom, key people from the fashion industry and fashion students. Traditional weaver and National Award winner, Ms. Banu Moorthy, too was among the attendees at the event. Fashion expert, choreographer and advisory board member of Vimor Mr. Prasad Bidappa, choreographed the fashion show wherein models strutted the ramp in some of Vimor’s memorable saree collection.

Established with a sheer economic need, Vimor gained its clients through word of mouth. It has dedicated itself towards reviving, documenting various traditional elements of the handlooms, financial support to the weavers, technical, colour and design guidance. It also trains weavers to manufacture marketable sarees.

The volunteer work by the students of PGFBFBM and DFD of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore during celebratory five days event was met with appreciation from Mr. Bidapa and Ms. Muddaya.
