The students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore created installations for the 5th edition of the Whitefield Art Collective organised at VR Bengaluru on 7th February 2020.
The theme for WAC2020 was crafted around Sustainability which is imperative for our planet and the existence of human life. Being a strong advocate of Sustainability since 2015, it also forms one of the three pillars of JD Institute with the other two being Ethical and Innovation. JD strongly practices and advocates sustainability among its students and has set precedence in all aspects of its work as well. The aim is to create conscious change makers who are aware of the repercussion of their actions on the planet and consumers. The installation emphasises on the crisis situation created by Plastic wastage alongwith non-biodegradable discarded materials like e–waste, covers, garbage bags, metal pieces, wires, ropes etc. The message of the works encouraged the viewers to dwell on the consumerist mindset alongwith being conscious of their choices. The installations – Pralaya and Nimius Plastico represented man-made created wastage and questioned the blatant disregard for the environment and the aftermath.
The opportunity presented the students to showcase their work alongside prominent and upcoming artist from across the country. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Bose Krishnamachari, President – Kochi Biennale Foundation by unveiling the VR Art Car painted by Bengaluru based NGO Aravani Art Project – women and trans-women art collective. The art car is reflective of the culture and ethos of Bengaluru. Well-known artist like Farhad Hussain, Veeer Munshi, George Martin, M. Senthipathi have lended their creativity to the car in the past
.
Apart from JD Institute, the ensemble also included work through creative partnerships with leading institutions; Bangalore Creative Circus, Indian Garbage Collective, The Broke Artist Collective, Aravani Arts Project, and Synaesthesia Collective & Art Flute were also included.
Art has always played a pivotal role in providing a voice for various causes in addition to seek and provide inspiration by the audience. JD believes in exposing the future change makers to various creative mediums to help them reach their optimum creativity and enhance their knowledge.
