JD Institute has a global curriculum which focuses on both theoretical and practical learnings. The Jediiians who are pursuing their Masters in Interior Design recently pulled off a successful exhibit where they put up their ideas through model making. The students used their design sensibility to curate residential spaces according to the brief and aced it with their diligent effort.
Interior design is a vast field. Since the pandemic hit, the outlook towards the look and feel of our residential, commercial and office spaces have changed. In order to stay in sync with the current requirements of human beings and their space, the interior design field is evolving everyday.
To inculcate the right kind of knowledge in the students, JD Institute of Fashion Technology exposes its students to a curriculum that prepares them for the market of today as well as the future world. The exhibits and displays are a way to bring out the creativity of the students and bring them valuable feedback, considering which they can work on their future projects.
The Master of Science Interior Design batch 2021 put up an exhibit for the Jediiians. The two sections of the batch together showcased their effort through a display where the aspiring interior designers made residential models of their ideas and designs.
The students occupied two rooms of the institute and invited the visitors through a beautiful message. As you would have entered the room, the work of students; mood boards, inspiration boards, color palette and their models were spread out. They prepared the outer structure of the models with the help of foam boards while for decorating and making the interiors of their residential models vivid and realistic, Jediiians chose various other eco-friendly and sustainable materials.
The display was a part of the Space Design module of the MSc Interior Design course, an integral section that helps aspiring designers to have a profound understanding of the physical space and the work that goes in it to give it the innovative design they are opting for. The module also helps the learners to work on consumer psychology and market trends. The interior designers get to understand the consumer behavior and how through their design they can achieve the necessity of their prospect clients. They learn about sustainable materials and through a brief, augment the space that is feasible for the people who would be using them. It also helps them to understand the space planning that is an important component of the work of interior designers and architects.
The module work was made exciting by the mentors as they asked the interior design students to assign each other the brief and the client profile. Jediiians went creative and gave clients brief like a couple where the partners are an artist and a homemaker. Students also went ahead with a unique pairing where the baker and a doctor were running the household.
The brief about the clients helped the students to create a feasible space for a harmonious household. Jediiians who are pursuing the interior design course took the challenge and picked up specific components of the building like bedroom, kid’s room, study room, kitchen, washroom, and living space for their models. The interior designers accordingly selected their theme and worked around it. They augmented the space with their visionary steps. Some students created opulent spaces while others went for affordable yet classy designs that stood out due to their floor plan and furniture pieces.
The most popular themes were Scandinavian, Boho and Minimalist among the students as most of the future designers went with a neutral color palette. They worked on the intricate details of the space like the windows, flooring, placement of the furniture to augment and enhance the space. They also took the liberty to use the waste material effectively and make their design eco-friendly.
For the furniture, many jediiians went with clay modeling and foam board structuring that they enhanced with fabrics and little detailings of sequin and more. Apart from these intricacies, jediiians pursuing interior design also curated the space keeping in mind the future and how with minimal effort new tech and developments can be incorporated inside the residential space. The students along with the physical design also put up the blueprints of their layout and explained to the visitors.
These visions and direction students derive from their mentors who are the industry experts.
