Jediiians Go Green this Ganesh Chaturthi: Clay Workshop at JD Institute
It is that time of the year when our hearts are filled with immense joy and adulation for our Lord Ganesha. On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, JD Institute of Fashion Technology organized an eco-friendly Ganesh idol making workshop at its campus on 11th September 2018. The students from all the departments – Fashion Design, Interior Design, and Jewellery Design Batch actively took a step towards greener earth by making clay Ganeshas.
Traditionally, Ganesha Idols are made of mud and clay which gets dissolved easily when immersed in water. But over time, these traditional making ideas were replaced by the plaster of Paris, a cheaper material that which causes harm to the environment. Since preserving the ecological balance and sustainability is a concern for years now, jediiians actively participated in this workshop which brought their creativity to the fore. They made the Ganesha idols from natural clay and experimented with different sizes and shapes under the guidance of their faculties. They were apprised about the harmful effects of POP (plaster of Paris) to the environment and were also informed about the benefits of clay idols. Around 150 Ganeshas were made during the workshop. Apart from that, the students from Bsc Fashion Design Batch decorated the Ganesha idol and conducted a small pooja at the campus for everyone. It was a fun and frolic activity for the students to learn something new apart from their regular class sessions that could serve the environment.
