The world photography Day is observed worldwide, on August 19th to celebrate an artist’s eye for the way they look at the world and who make a picture say a thousand words. The day is not only celebrated by the staunch followers of photography, but also by the people across the globe irrespective of their profession who come together and inspire the world with their images.
Founded in 1837, the day was originated from the invention of the Daguerreotype, a photographic processes developed by Louis Daguerre. The French Government announced this invention as a gift ‘Free to the world’.
To mark the occasion, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore organized a contest for all the Past and Present students of the Diploma in Fashion Photography course. Every year the Institute has its own theme and the way of celebrating this day. The previous year, jediiians embarked this day with the theme called BE NICE. It was a global call dedicated to inspire and encourage kindness. This year the Institute had brought in the idea of – SLICES OF LIFE in monochrome. The dictionary meaning of the term refers to a realistic portrayal of people or events in everyday life.
Staying true to the theme, the Photography students showcased their keen eye through the digital medium and captured varied essence of life and everyday routine of the people and themselves. We at JD Institute believe that a visual medium can inspire individuals to empathize, engage and connect with the world. This contest was a great initiative by the department through which the students showed their zeal and enthusiasm for photography.
