JD x Chelsea College of the Arts, Ual Interior Styling Experience September 2019

 For the fall edition of the Imagination Journey, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, collaborated with Chelsea College of the Arts, a constituent college of the University of the Arts London based in London, UK – a leading British art and design institution to extend the Interior Styling program to the students of Interior Design of JD. This initiative was introduced to help the students of JD Institute to gain an insight and understand International Interior Retail Display and Design ideas and techniques.

The short course – Retail Display and Design helped students gain a comprehensive understanding of the ways in which brands engage with their customers through the medium of visual communication in spatial environment. The students were instructed and guided by Ms. Debbie Flowerday, Visual Merchandiser and Lecturer at the Chelsea College of Arts. They were introduced to the creative process and fundamental principles of design for windows and retail environments by responding to a series of set briefs. The course helped students to stimulate conceptual and practical thinking, by working closely with international tutors, thereby, allowing them to gain practical knowledge and develop skills in a supportive learning environment.

The successful completion of the course was marked by a final day presentation wherein the students were required to create 3D models which included mood board development from the perspective of a client, brainstorming, sourcing, an in-store display with three focal points, store layout, window displays, colour scheme, patterns, placements and material.
