JD institute Becomes Goa’s First Design College to Launch IGBC Student Chapter, Championing Sustainability in Design Education

Goa, September 27, 2024: JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Goa takes a futuristic step in creating a sustainable future for next-generation designers with the launch of the IGBC Student Chapter. Goa’s first-ever design college, JD Institute of Fashion Technology , turns out to be the first in the region to lead eco-conscious practices and create a new benchmark for design education.

Aligning with the global sustainable efforts led by councils like Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) – Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, Sustainable Development goals from UNO, Councils similar to IGBC, US Green Building Council, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Goa also takes a futuristic step in creating a sustainable future for next-generation designers with the launch of the IGBC Student Chapter in association with Indian Green Building Council. Under such an arrangement, the student will have the opportunity to be educated concerning theoretical and practical expertise in the field of sustainable design. The workshops, hands-on projects, and expert-led sessions will assist in giving the students invaluable insights into sustainable building practices, energy-efficient solutions, and eco-friendly materials. This initiative equips aspiring designers with the requisite knowledge and skills necessary for educating the design industry on addressing environmental challenges.

The event will happen at the HIDE event in Goa on 27 September 2024. There will be a panel discussion that will feature key voices from the architecture and design community. This panel includes:

  • Dr Aniruddha Pawar, PhD (IIT Roorkee) – Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Planning & Design at Goa University – speaks on Green Buildings and Climate-Responsive Design.
  • Ar. Amit Parashar, M. Arch. (University of British Columbia) – Principal Architect at Design Workshop Goa, discussing the Environment & Design.
  • Mr. KulaSekhar Kantipudi – Real estate developer and IGBC Goa co-chair, will share insights on Sustainable Real Estate Projects in Goa.

Official highlights in this event include the launching of the IGBC Student Chapter by Mr. KulaSekhar Kantipudi, a well-known figure in the sustainable development sector, who will encourage and educate young designers on the significance of sustainability in real estate industries and how it can be integrated into current designing.

Speaking at the event of the launch, Dr. Nischay Gowda, HOD, Interior Design & Decoration, JD Institute Bangalore, “While we look toward the future, sustainability is no longer an option but a necessity. With this endeavour like IGBC Student Chapter, we are creating opportunities for young designers to create innovative and responsible solutions. I am excited to see how JD Institute of Fashion Technology students would contribute to creating a greener Goa and the world.”
