Artist Basavaraj Khumbar, lives in a village called Asnoti near Karwar. He is a skilled potter dealing with clay. He makes terracotta products and sells in the streets of Asnoti and has been doing this business over 40 years. He has expertise in this field and also likes to try doing unique art using clay. The artisan is a much unknown person and he has tried to develop a unique candle stand. He said that he likes to experiment with clay; one such day he took a terracotta lamp and added more clay to it and made few modifications, which lead to the making of candle holder. The candle holder is a creative idea of the artisan. The designers said “The final product called Rythm of Lights, developed is inspired by the original product created by Mr. Basavaraj Khumbar. The idea of using clay as the main material for most of the product and the concept of lighting is the inspiration of the candle holder made by him. It can be used in various places and also for various purposes. It is also economical. It can be re-used, thus the idea of recycling and never ending process. The yellow warm light is spread all around and illuminates the space. It is both aesthetical and functional. It has the earthy touch to it and provides light into the space. It is a traditional Indian form of art, which gives the ambience more ethnical look”. Clay, jute rope and metal chain are some of the materials used for the product.
