JD ANNUAL DESIGN AWARDS 2016 – UNTOLD STORIES – DEPT. OF INTERIOR DESIGN – BY RAHUL JAIN AND MUHAMMED RAEES – INSPIRED BY HANUMANTH RAO
Hanumanth Rao is an artist from Kondapalli, a village in the Krishna district near Vijayawada. Kondapalli is known for its wooden toys and is also known to be the place famous for art of crafting. The art of crafting is a 400 year old tradition. Due to the geographical conditions and low profits, the toy-maker and artist takes a long time to produce toys. The tradition of toy making is on the decline as the younger generations lack interest in producing and promoting Kondapally toys. The designers have designed a living and dining space with an interior filled with similar works of the artist to maintain the essence of crafting using wood and jute as the prime materials.
