Titled “Dandalion Dreams”, the collection takes inspiration from the traditional weaved wrap around fabric called dakmanda belonging to the Garo tribes of picturesque Northeast India. The fabric is hand woven by the ladies of the tribe by assembling 1000s of yarns onto the weaving loom and the motifs are inserted one thread at a time. Anchor threads are used for achieving the motif design and lurex thread to give the shine and lustre.
In a fabric saga of heavy cotton and satin, and colours such as morning glory, veri berri, reclining green, haute pink, lotus flower, and real red, the collection offers H silhouette dresses with empire draft and yoke bodice, empire princess line jackets, and panelled flare dress. The surface of the main fabric has a puffed effect because of threads inserted for motifs and the base fabric has an elegant shimmery effect. The collection is presented by Apriliana Marak of B.Sc 2013 batch.
