JD Annual Design Awards 2016 – Untold Stories : “CALICO”
The collection is inspired by artist Sindhu Jois, who is a creator of brilliant pieces of art and can transform any given material into works of unique creation. Titled ‘CALICO’ the student designers have taken cat motifs as their inspiration from the artist’s work. Cats have fascinated humankind throughout civilizations with their feminine prowess and agile perfection. Sindhu Jois’s cats inked in Indian Ink are both playful and curious. The collection also focuses on how we are a parody crafted by the perceptions born from media. The designers want to carve a woman’s identity and strength of her integral being. Translating this into a collection that includes a wide range of key pieces like coats, cape, shift dress, skirts, shorts, crop tops, trousers and culottes and a colour story that includes off whites, samoan sun and blue depths. The collection is presented by Arpita Goliya, Nafiya monis, and Sejal Gulechha from August 2015 batch.
