JD Design Awards 2022 witnessed numerous design collections by the budding fashion designers. Based on the theme of Sync with nature, each designer group has worked their way to present an ensemble of nine to ten garments that highlights the perfect synchronisation of human beings with their surroundings.
Going ahead on the similar lines, budding designers of JD Institute of Fashion Technology Punya Nidhish M and Amrita Rauniyar curated the collection Intertwined. It is a women’s pret wear Spring/Summer collection inspired by Geobacter which is a species of a bacteria that breathes out electrons and has the ability to precipitate radioactive metals from contaminated environments.
“The collection highlights that nature is capable of self healing and harmonising despite the chaos created by a man. It presents an idea of using e-waste like discarded electrical wires and cables in the clothing. Owing to the use of various elements of art like lines, texture and form, the collection we created is visually harmonious yet chaotic with fitted silhouettes”, explained the designers when asked about their design idea.
E-waste has become a rampant problem for the world. Globally over 50 million metric tons of E-waste is generated every year, impacting our nature in a hazardous way. Since the technology is evolving at a fast pace, apart from improving the living condition of human beings, the adverse effect it is casting is on the environment directly. Hence, the designers showcased how to minimise the ill-impact of it by utilising it in our everyday needs.
