Interior Design Semester End Exhibit 2024

Interior Design Semester End Exhibit 2024

Organised by Rashmi Venkatesan, Assistant Professor of the Interior Design Department and Class Mentor for DID NOV ’23, the Semester-End display and Diploma in Interior Design ‘23 exhibit at JD Institute of Fashion and Technology are pivotal showcases of student achievement. The event marks the coming together of their hard work and dedication throughout the term. This interior design exhibit is more than just a display of projects; it is a comprehensive evaluation platform where students are assessed on their knowledge, communication, and presentation skills. Each of these points plays a crucial role in the learning and professional growth of a student.

Why is the Interior Design exhibit important?

This exhibit of the JD Institute of Fashion Technology is a platform where the knowledge and creativity of students are combined. They are given the freedom to select any topic/module and experiment with the way to display the idea. Knowledge forms the foundation of any educational pursuit. Demonstrating knowledge through their projects shows their grasp of the subject matter and their ability to apply theoretical concepts in practical scenarios. This aspect of the exhibit allows students to showcase their depth of understanding and their capacity to innovate within the constraints of the discipline.

Presentation Skill Assessment

Presentation skills are essential for making a lasting impression. In the exhibit of the Diploma in Interior Design, 23, the way students present their work—through boards, models, and digital media—reflects their attention to detail and their ability to create visually appealing and coherent narratives. A well-presented project can capture the essence of a design and engage the audience, showcasing the student’s talent and creativity. This skill is indispensable in the professional world, where the ability to present ideas convincingly can lead to successful project pitches and collaboration.

The Impact Of Different Modules and Exhibits On Students:

DRAFTING

At JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Diploma in Interior Design students learn about drafting modules, which are quite important, and it also offers key skills for precise design communication. It covers projections, elevation and section drawings, and isometric views, all of which help with accurate spatial documentation. Learning hand-drawing standards deepens understanding of scale, proportion, and detail, boosting creativity and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in manual drafting ensures students can effectively convey ideas, even without digital tools.

SPACE DESIGN

Space design knowledge for interior design students focuses on effective spatial visualization. It includes understanding mood and ambience, space planning, and the application of design standards, all vital for creating functional and attractive environments. Students learn to express their ideas using drafting techniques, ensuring clarity and precision. This module highlights the significance of mood and ambience, enabling students to design spaces that evoke the intended emotions. By mastering space planning and adhering to design standards, students can create well-organised, cohesive spaces, enhancing their skill in accurately communicating and implementing their design concepts.

MATERIAL SOURCING

In this module, students focus on commercial interior design materials commonly used in residential and commercial projects. Students learn largely about the variety of commercial materials, modular units, their material varieties, and cost details. This module teaches them to select appropriate materials based on functionality, aesthetics, and budget considerations. Understanding the range of available materials, from economical options to premium choices, helps students make informed decisions for their designs. By mastering material sourcing, students can create cost-effective, high-quality designs that meet client needs and expectations, ultimately enhancing their ability to deliver successful interior design projects.

DIGITAL DESIGN TOOLS

The digital design tools module, taught towards the end of the first semester, is essential for interior design students. It covers AutoCAD, SketchUp, and V-Ray, equipping students with crucial skills for their semester 2 projects. Mastery of AutoCAD ensures precise drafting, SketchUp enables effective 3D modelling, and V-Ray enhances rendering capabilities. This module prepares students for advanced design tasks, allowing them to create detailed, realistic visualizations of their projects.

How Interior Design Students Showcased Their Creativity and Skills Comprehensively

Interior Design Semester End Exhibit 2024

Students use several mediums to make one comprehensive way to indulge people in understanding their design.

1.Design Process Sketchbooks:

These books narrated the student’s creative journey, emphasising their problem-solving abilities and iterative design processes. They acted as a personal collection of ideas and techniques, reflecting growth and the progression of their design concepts.

2. Material Board and Posters:

Material boards enabled students to physically examine and evaluate the textures, colours and finishes they intended to use in their projects. They were vital for developing a tactile understanding of materials and ensuring cohesive, realistic design solutions. Posters were an engaging way to visually convey design concepts, research findings, and project summaries concisely and impactfully. These materials helped students practice effective visual storytelling and presentation skills, which are very essential for client pitches and professional reviews.

3. 3-D models:

3-D models were the virtual representations of what our interior design students had planned out. A three-dimensional view, allowed students to explore spatial relationships, proportions, and the functionality of their designs. They were crucial for translating two-dimensional plans into tangible forms, enhancing spatial awareness and design precision.

The exhibit for interior design was a perfect opportunity for students to project their skills and creativity about their ideas. Exhibits always have a thriving effect on their future endeavours of meeting different audiences and grabbing onto opportunities. They get to understand what is needed in the present scenario that will make them stand out, and all of this is taught at the JD Institute of Fashion Technology.
