Interior Designers play a vital role in the design industry. Their job role is not limited to just improving the space aesthetically but improving the functionality of the space with maximum optimization. The Interior Design domain goes through multiple shifts in pace with technology and the necessity of the world. Hence, abiding by the requirement of the domain, JD Institute always gives a chance to its learners to learn new aspects from the industry experts.

Recently, the June 2022 batch of Interior Design pursuing their diplomas put up an exhibition of their new learnings. Held inside the college campus of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore, the aspiring interior designers showcased the beautiful products they curated out of buttons.

Prior to the display, learners were taught about button art by Ar Mohamed Rafiq S who gave them the knowledge of practising sustainability in everyday art curation. During the workshop students learnt how to create a decor piece using buttons, which is being created from the waste. Moreover, to curate the product, aspirants had to pick other objects that are non-biodegradable and hence, reusing them for the decor purposes.

According to Ar Mohamed Rafiq S, faculty Interior Design, “All the interior design students should know how to design a product and give it life according to the clients’ requirements. This was a workshop conducted to make them understand that they can create wonders using the old and unused products. And if possible they can even sell those products, keeping the profit in their mind, weighing expenses and time spent in getting the output.”

The display of button art also highlighted the knowledge of colour theory and design elements as the interior designers have to be well-versed with these aspects of designs. The students had curated decorative lamps, wall decor pieces, trinket boxes and baskets that lured the visitors. They also spoke about their inspiration behind each of the creations and every piece oozed marvel.

Interior Design aspirants always need to be on their foot to embrace the new trends and maintain the aesthetics of the space. Moreover, sustainability is the necessity of today and hence the design should bend in that direction to deliver the maximum without compromising the health of the planet. JD Institute of Fashion Technology has adopted a global pedagogy for interior design studies where the curriculum is interactive and focuses on the overall development of the learner.
