The students of Interior Design Programme at JD Institute had let their creative juices flow for their miniature display on March 26th, 2019. The whole idea behind this project was to introduce them to the concept of furniture and space planning. Just as how books are important to the library, in the same way, furniture is an important element when it comes to Interior Design.

The students were given a brief to design a product or furniture for any government sectors such as schools, hospitals, banks, etc. They had to work on design, costing, stability, finishes, and use of each product.

Interior Department

Creativity dwelled from one corner to the other. Team one designed two sitting furniture for a government school. This furniture has a metal framework along with adjustable legs that allows students of different heights to sit on it. It also has a good storage space which will let students keep their books and stationery.

Team two had given a new dimension to the reception desk and walls of a hospital. They used durable and cheap materials to introduce greenery to the reception so that patients and receptionists could get oxygen from the plants. The idea behind this was to make the hospitals less scary.

Interior Department

Team three came up with a plan to get rid of the grid system that is followed in government offices such as IT, RTO, CA etc. The intent was to have a desk arrangement that also doubles as a conference table. When not used as individual desks or conference table, the furniture can also act as a storage unit.

Interior Department

Team four’s design revolved around a mobile kiosk for the government sector which could be made from 10 seater vans. The beauty of this product is that it can be driven to flood hit areas, concerts, and political rallies to deliver hot food.

Team five made a library wheel for the disabled people. The designers have attached a mechanism which will not let the books fall when being rotated. All the products were designed keeping in mind the durability and the cost effective factor.
