Designers Preeti Deshpande and Pooja Agrawal’s collection, “Incontrovertible – Merriness” is derived from two words, Incontrovertible meaning, not in doubt and Merriness which means liveliness, cheerfulness. The collection was inspired by the Swastika symbol.
The Swastika is a religious symbol of divinity and spirituality in Indian religions. Swastika in Sanskrit means conducive to well-being or auspicious. The design of the symbol is an equilateral cross with arms bent at right angles, all in the same rotary direction, usually clockwise. The symbol is not just found in India and worshipped by Hindus, Jains and Buddhists but was also found on the Mesopotamian coinage, South and Central America, among the Mayan culture alongwith is presence in North America.
Inorder to create the symbol, the designers incorporated the vertical and horizontal lines alongwith dots and curves in the collection by using the pleating technique. Horizontal pleat was used in the upper section of the garments whereas vertical pleating was used on the lower section. Natural fabrics like jute and pure cotton were used along with acrylic. The colours included mustard yellow, brick brown, olive green, grey and pink. Instead of using the Swastika directly on the garment, the designers used the line structure inspired by it.
