Imagination Journey to Mumbai, a cosmopolitan city, pulsating heart of Maharashtra, embracing our students with its richness through the tapestry of culture, art, and design. This was one ideal journey that JD Institute of Fashion Technology students will remember forever, a perfect match between inspiration, creativity, and history to shape their creative careers.
Design Meets Modern Aesthetics
The day began with an optional visit to the Siddhivinayak Temple and a few students found peace amidst the spiritual aura.
Interior Design students explored Design Mumbai 2024 at Jio World Garden, a dynamic showcase of innovation. It hosted exclusive installations by global brands and fabulous interactive sessions with design leaders like Chris Lefteri. The event opened up cutting-edge trends, sustainability, and aesthetics, which motivated the students into reimagination of their creative projects.
Meanwhile, students in the fashion course were spellbound by the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) design. The Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirror Room was stunning and included infinite reflections of light and colour, submerging visitors in this wonderland. From the curated art at Art House to massive public installations, the visit, without exception, underscored the transformative power of contemporary art.
The day concluded at Jio World Drive, where the students experienced luxury retail. They witnessed the visual merchandising strategies of Michael Kors and Zegna, which gave them ideas about creating excellent retail experiences, a fusion of art and commerce.
A Walk Through Time
On the second day of the trip, students ended up in the heritage beauty of South Bombay. Starting from Church Gate, students viewed the Flora Fountain, Kala Ghoda Art District, and Jehangir Art Gallery. All of these places were reflective of Mumbai’s artistic soul: colonial architecture united with modern art.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya was the highlight of the day; artefacts like ancient textiles and sculptures spoke of India’s rich heritage in itself. A serene walk along Marine Drive wrapped up the day with breathtaking views of the skyline of Mumbai.
Ancient Wisdom at Elephanta Caves
The final day took us to the Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Trimurti sculpture, depicting Lord Shiva as Creator, Protector, and Destroyer, left students in awe. The intricate panels showcased mythological tales, blending art and spirituality in stone.
It was an experience that bridged years, ignited creative fires, and, in a city as cosmopolitan as Mumbai—from ancient caves to deluxe individual inspirations—it ignited and reminded us that inspiration lies everywhere. Our students go back enriched and eager to turn these lessons into future masterpieces.
