Huda Haven – JD Design Awards 2024

Fathima Nazneen, a Diploma student of Fashion Design curated a collection named Huda Haven which is an Autumn-Winter 2025 women’s-wear pret-a-porter collection. Oman’s monuments are rich in history and architectural beauty, providing a wealth of inspiration for fashion designers. Bringing the designs from the monuments of Oman into the collection can create a unique and culturally rich aesthetic, perfect for the autumn-winter season. It’s exciting to imagine the fusion of traditional Omani motifs with contemporary fashion trends in this collection

ILLUSTRATIONS & BOARD

Y Crush is typically lightweight, making it comfortable for extended wear, especially in warm climates. The fabric’s breathability helps in maintaining comfort by allowing air circulation, reducing the likelihood of overheating. This fabric is known for its strength and durability, ensuring that abayas made from this material are long-lasting. Its texture makes it suitable for both casual and formal abayas, offering versatility in design and style. It is easy to care for, requiring simple washing and drying methods without the need for ironing. Its properties ensure it is sufficiently opaque and provides good coverage, aligning with the modesty requirements of traditional Muslim attire.Red Ochre: The vibrant color of red ochre symbolizes the cultural and historical richness of Oman. This hue is seen in the ancient forts and castles that dot the landscape, such as the Bahla Fort and Nizwa Fort, their walls imbued with the reddish-brown tones of the earth. It also brings to mind the traditional pottery and crafts that are a significant part of Omani heritage, with artisans using natural dyes and pigments to create their works.  Daylily: The bright, cheerful color of daylily, a vibrant yellow-orange, perfectly captures the essence of Mughsail Beach. This stunning coastal area is known for its long stretches of sandy shore and the radiant, golden hues that dominate the landscape, especially during sunrise and sunset. This color brings to mind the invigorating energy and warmth of the beach, where the sunlight bathes everything in a warm, inviting glow. It also symbolizes the vibrant flora that can be found around Mughsail Beach. Using the color daily to describe Mughsail Beach brings out the vivid, warm, and inviting aspects of this coastal paradise. It highlights the golden sands, the radiant sunlight, and the dynamic natural features that make Mughsail a captivating and memorable destination.Bracken: Colour which changes from green to brown, is similar to the natural colors found in Oman. During the Khareef season in Dhofar, the landscape turns lush green like bracken ferns. In other parts of Oman, the desert and dry areas show brown shades similar to bracken in autumn. Omani traditional clothing and architecture also feature earthy tones that reflect these natural colors

JDDA 2024

Oman is a country rich in cultural heritage and history, and its monumental designs are deeply embedded in its architecture and art. Recently, these designs have found a new expression in the fashion world, particularly in the design of abayas. Abaya, a traditional robe-like dress worn by some Muslim women, has evolved from a simple garment into a canvas for cultural expression and contemporary fashion. The integration of Omani monumental designs into abayas involves the incorporation of traditional patterns, motifs, and architectural elements seen in Oman’s historical structures. One notable aspect of Omani design is its emphasis on symmetry and intricate detail, which can be seen in the grand mosques, forts, and palaces throughout the country. The detailed patterns are translated into the fabric, embellishments of the abayas, creating a fusion of traditional art and contemporary fashion. This fusion of monumental designs into abayas not only celebrates Oman’s heritage but also offers a modern twist, appealing to contemporary tastes while preserving traditional elements. It allows wearers to showcase their cultural identity and pride through fashion, making a statement that is both timeless and stylish. By wearing these abayas, women can carry a piece of Oman’s architectural splendor with them, blending history with modernity in their everyday attire..
