FASHIONABLE PEDAGOGY THROUGH WEARABLE ART AT VR BENGALURU

The students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore, presented a one of its kind Wearable Art Fashion Show on 7th February 2020 as part of the Whitefield Art Collective 2020 at VR Bengaluru.

The theme of the 5th edition of the collective revolved around Sustainability, which is in tandem with the three vital values of JD Institute of Fashion Technology i.e. Sustainability, Ethical and Innovation. The principles of the institute were evident at the fashion show titled Wearable Art Fashion Show, presented garments that showcased Exodus 34.10-16 that showcased garments made out of hydroponic textiles; Dastakari that featured a modern take on Khadi and exhibited India’s legacy; Garbage Dreams fashioned out of discarded materials like nylon sacks, fish nets, wire, etc. created by students of JD and international artist Mariel Manuel; Floranimar that had seeds inserted in garments which could be detached and buried in the soil to grow plants etc.

The fashion industry is known to be one of the biggest polluters and the fashion show, was a reflection of our times and a peek into the creation of earth conscious approach that does not cause pollution. The students with the support of their mentors put together a dynamic collection that showcased the possibility of producing or using textiles that will help in the efficient use of water and recycle discarded materials into wearable pieces.

JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore were the proud presenters at an exclusive show that was attended by artists, thinkers, designers and key industry people from various parts of the world. This opportunity provided a limelight on our students and showcased sustainable explorations.
