On February 21st, 2024, the JD School of Design, powered by JD Institute of Fashion Technology in Bangalore, had the privilege of hosting a seminar led by the esteemed Marc Robinson. Robinson, a former model, actor, and renowned fashion show director, graced the event to shed light on the upcoming Pepe Jeans London Fashion Design Awards 2024 – Student Edition.

Pepe Jeans India, in collaboration with Marc Robinson, unveiled the latest edition of the Pepe Jeans London Fashion Design Awards 2024 – Student Edition. This competition invites students from prestigious colleges across India, including JD School of Design, to showcase their design prowess on a national stage. The theme for this year’s competition, “Take Me Somewhere,” celebrates the spirit of urban exploration and cultural diversity. Participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from their surroundings, incorporating elements of modernity, sustainability, and inclusivity into their designs.

Born on the streets of the cosmopolitan city of London, Pepe Jeans is a cultural wanderer in search of exciting urban territories and hotspots around the world. The colour of London and the colour of denim, blue, symbolise the perfect balance between style and monotony. Blue is unpretentious and easy to style, offering designers a versatile canvas for their creativity. Deconstructing denim may also be a viable option while keeping in mind the theme “Take Me Somewhere.”

The event organisers embarked on a journey across India, engaging in discussions with eligible participants from various fashion design colleges. Interested students were required to submit digital mood boards and a brief narrative outlining their collection’s interpretation of the theme. A panel of esteemed judges would then shortlist the top finalists, who would each receive funding for the construction of their garments. Additionally, the top winners would have the opportunity to secure cash prizes and internships with Pepe Jeans or one of the esteemed designers on the jury panel.

Marc Robinson‘s illustrious career trajectory, spanning over 25 years, has solidified his position as one of India’s most sought-after grooming experts and fashion directors. From his early days as a supermodel to his current roles as a beauty pageant and fashion director, Robinson’s contributions to the Indian fashion and glamour industry are unparalleled. His extensive portfolio includes collaborations with renowned designers and brands, as well as directing and choreographing prestigious fashion events and launches.

Upon asking Marc about the seminar at JD this is what he had to say “This is the 3rd year I have been back to this campus. I love it! The energy is really good. And we had some really good questions from the students about the competition. So I am happy to be here, here and I look forward to some great entries coming from JD.”
