The Ten Stroke Gallery— JD Institute of Fashion Technology’s Diploma in Fine Jewellery Design July 2024 batch students embarked on an inspirational journey to The Ten Stroke Gallery, Pancharothi, one of the most famed international artist groups On November 30, 2024. Organized at the Chitrakala Parishad, it was part of the module on Design Thinking and Process in order to bridge that gap between art and jewellery designing.

Ten Stroke Gallery presented some excellent work from an excellent team of prominent artists. It had Mr Asish Mondal, Mr Bibhas Baidya, Mr Jiban Bishwas, Mr Jyotirmay Dalapati, Mr Prbitra Barman, Mr Sanjay Samanta, Mr Subrata Karmakar, Mr Subhendu Biswas, Mr Swapan K Ghosh, and Mr Tanmay Halder. Every piece of art shown there was a tale of a piece of India’s glorious culture with new ideas of creativity. 

It was a tour much beyond just looking in a gallery but one through experience. They were allowed to see the work of art more or less from different spectators’ angles while searching for ideas related to their creative processes. This would make them skilled observers in design thinking: that is, noticing things minutely and important to this art.

This allows one to understand how art and jewellery come together. The highly vivid storytelling in every work allowed it to strike the students’ hearts as well as emphasise the storytelling aspects in their designs. So the interlink between cultures and individual expression and design depicts how one can channel this creativity into meaningful creations in their designs.

It was also an understanding platform on how the thought process of an artist changes. From a very inspirational change to the final execution, every stroke on the canvas showed very thoughtful and analytical thinking. This was a great learning experience for students who had to be patient and see that design is not a linear process.

The visit to The Ten Stroke Gallery, Pancharothi by the students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology batch Diploma in Fine Jewellery Design July 2024, enriched the students and also left them inspired. Every piece of art helped them understand why art is so important as a foundation for design. Drawing parallels between the artists and themselves (designers), they walked away with renewed purpose and a deeper connection to their craft.
