DESIGNURU – ECOLOGICAL DESIGN IDEAS EXHIBITION

Designuru, a design based festival was organised by the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID), Bengaluru Regional Chapter at Rangoli Metro Art Centre, M.G. Road from 13th – 18th October 2019. Police Commissioner  Mr. Bhaskar Rao, inaugurated the festival. The initiative aimed to create a dialogue among the urban residents from the context of history and preservation, urban design, product design, ecology and interior design.

The festival hosted a curated design ideas exhibition on ecology – City Works that proposed to improve the urban landscape of the city. The week-long festival engaged enthusiasts with exhibitions and workshops on urban design, product design, design and ecology, interior design and architecture. Students from Interior Design Department were part of the week long initiative wherein they were involved in the role of volunteers and also partook in the various workshops, showcased their designs and were part of the design teams of the festival.

Noted architect, Ar. Umeed Mistry was part of a talk session – Lessons from Nature that highlighted the importance of the correlation between nature and design. Some students were a part of the project team working on recycling of waste headed by Mr. Mistry that used discarded bottle caps were to make round frames to highlight the heroes whom they sought inspiration from. Students painted helmets as part of a nature based workshop which revolved around the theme – reduce, reuse and recycle.

‘Designuru’ provided students with an opportunity to interact and get inspired by renowned designers and architects. It also helped them understand and appreciate the importance of nature on design.
