A Display by the Fashion design students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Hyderabad is taking place in three different venues on three different dates allowing people from various parts of the city to come and experience the students’ works. The Display is being organized from 11th March,2022 up to 20th March,2022. The venues selected for this are Hyderabad Metro Rail (Ameerpet Metro station) for 11th March, followed by Galleria Mall for 13th March,2022 and finally Premia Mall for the final day, i.e, 20th March,2022. The Fashion show scheduled for 11th March will begin from Ameerpet metro station concourse and go to Hitech city metro station.
This Fashion show is organized with the aim of informing everyone about the Telangana textile crafts that have died down due to the pandemic. Multiple artisans lost their jobs during the initial lockdown and this initiative aims to help them get back up on their feet. The students are inspired from the local crafts such as Block printing, Ikat, etc to create beautiful garments that were showcased on 11th March.
The students visited Bogaram- a village of artisans as a part of their course to study how traditional sarees were made using the Handloom. Using this learning, our students have created beautiful garments using traditional methods of fabric printing. This method not only sends a message to our society to be more sustainable but also uplifts our artisans by promoting their techniques.
The process began with their mood boards that depicted traditional printing methods, followed with their initial designs and then fabric sourcing from communities that cater to these methods of printing (block printing, Ikat, etc.). The students have created each garment by hand draping them followed by stitching. The students aspired to motivate the young generation in buying handloom products directly from the artisans so as to uplift the community.
We couldn’t be prouder of our students than this as they have done more than what we expected. They did not stop at the Display. The institute has also organized a block printing workshop by our very own jediiians at the Galleria Mall on 11th and 13th March. This workshop is being conducted by the students for anyone who is interested in understanding how block printing works and create their own little pieces of artworks to take away.
Fashion Design students get the chance to showcase their work to the city. Head to the venues to catch our students at their best.
