Ms. Shasna Shakeel

BSc. in Fashion and Apparel Design student, Ms. Shasna Shakeel from JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Cochin won a place in India Book of Records. This recognition was bestowed on her for creating maximum number of string art portraits of all ‘Miss World’ title holders from India. These are namely Manushi Chhillar, Priyanka Chopra, Yukta Mookhey, Diana Hayden, Aishwarya Rai and Reita Faria.

String art, is characterized by an arrangement of thread strung between points (nail or pin) to form geometric patterns or representational designs. The 20×20 inch String portraits were completed within 3 days, allotting 5 hours for each portrait. She used Thermocol as the base medium, 2000 metres of Black thread and 1500 nails to accomplish this achievement. The most interesting part is, there were no pencils or pens used to outline the potraits, it was all done by pinning the nails on the thermocol base. The 5 hour (for one portrait) process video was shared with concerned officials as evidence.
